An Air Force Academy graduate was remembered in a funeral service Friday, almost two months after his body was recovered from the Adriatic Sea.

Maj. Lucas Gruenther's fighter jet went missing on Jan. 28 during a nighttime training mission. His body was found three days later by an Italian vessel.

After graduating from AFA in 2003, Gruenther went on to be an instruction pilot at Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas, then later became chief of flight safety for the 31st Fighter Wing at Aviano Air Base, Italy. He was posthumously promoted to major.

A funeral service was held at the Academy cemetery Friday morning.
