11 News is uncovering information about allegations of sexual misconduct involving Fort Carson soldiers. Sources at the Mountain Post confirm the case in question reportedly involves underage girls.
KKTV 11 News has also learned that it's not just Fort Carson that's investigating the soldiers. Colorado Springs police say they are also doing an investigation. Police say their case involves one Fort Carson soldier and one 15-year-old girl.
After we told them about the open investigation, Fountain police and the El Paso County Sheriff's office say they are looking into whether or not any of their cases are connected.
Officials at Fort Carson are not releasing very many details about the case, including what the alleged sexual misconduct was. They say they may release more information July 25.
According to CNN, investigators are looking into reports that several soldiers joined an "online social dating" website. The soldiers reportedly contacted women through the website that they thought were at least 18-years-old. According to CNN, investigators believe some or all of the soldiers had sex with the women, who then turned out to be minors.
Officials released the following statement to 11 News Tuesday:
"Fort Carson is currently investigating allegations against several Soldiers for sexual misconduct with female minors. The command is aware of the cases and is closely monitoring the investigations of these Soldiers. At this time, no further details can be released as law enforcement investigations are still pending. We assure the community that the Army is taking this situation seriously and updates will be provided as information is made available."
There's no indication if any soldiers have been arrested, or detained on post based on these allegations.
11 News is working to find to find out if the alleged sexual misconduct happened on the post or somewhere in our community.
A source tells 11 News that the girls range in age from 13 to 15 years old.
