Frontier Airlines will no longer be flying out of Colorado Springs beginning this spring, the Colorado Springs Airport confirmed to 11 News.
The airport released a statement explaining the decision:
The Colorado Springs Airport has been notified that Frontier Airlines will discontinue its service in Colorado Springs. In mid-January, Frontier announced that it will reduce the amount of service it will offer at the Colorado Springs Airport during the first quarter of 2013. With this latest announcement, the last two remaining Frontier routes will be out of the market during the second quarter of 2013.
Frontier advised the Airport that demand for the Los Angeles and Phoenix service was relatively strong. However, Frontier cited the difficulty of marketing isolated non-stop routes in a city with no connecting service to its hub in Denver.
In response to the earlier announcement, management made adjustments to its budget to mitigate the financial impact of Frontier’s decision. At this point, only minor adjustments need to be made to account for the removal of the remaining Frontier service.
United Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Airlines and Allegiant Air continue to serve Colorado Springs to ten major airline hub cities- Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Denver, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. Through these hubs, travelers have one-stop access to over 1,500 destinations worldwide.
Airport staff will continue in its efforts to attract new service to Colorado Springs through its on-going air service development program. Specific conversations regarding the replacement of Frontier service are currently under way with four airlines.
