Friends Catch Car Burglar In Act; Suspect Pulls Gun

A group of five friends returned to their vehicles late Friday night only to make a scary discovery.

"We were hanging out at the pond over there [gestures in direction of Sinton Pond]," Bethany Egler said. "And then we came back and saw [two cars] broken into, with the windows smashed and saw a guy in there."

Egler was with two girlfriends and two male friends at the time.

"My brother went over and ran and was like, 'Hey, get out of the car, get out of the car!'" Glory Hocking said.

The car belonged to Egler, who ran to the car with Hocking's brother.

"I ran up and yelled at the guy," Tyler Hocking told 11 News. "And he came out of the car...he walked out, walked up to me and pulled out a gun."

Hocking said that the suspect aimed the gun at him. Egler backed away.

"I told him it was alright and started walking to cover...he started to walk to his car and pointing it [the gun] at my friends. Then he got in his car and left.

"I was kind of freaking out..I've never had a gun pulled on me, I didn't know what think."

"It was really scary," Egler said. "I was like, 'He has a gun and he's going to shoot all of us, and we're going to die.'"

"I just turned was my brother, I didn't know what to do!" Glory Hocking told 11 News, visibly shaken.

The incident happened Friday night just minutes before midnight. The pond is located near I-25, between Fillmore and Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs. Police do not have a suspect description, but say that the suspect wasn't alone--he climbed into the passenger side of a dark-colored SUV that was then driven away by someone else.
