A Fremont County man is behind bars after he allegedly killed his older brother early Sunday morning.

According to the Fremont County Sheriff's Office, 32-year-old Joshua McBride got in a fight with his brother Daniel McBride, 34 at a home on Holiday Hills Drive in Howard. As it escalated, the Sheriff's Office says Joshua shot Daniel once in the stomach with a 12 gauge shotgun. Daniel was dead before deputies got to the scene.

When deputies arrived at the home, Daniel was dead in one of the bedrooms, Joshua had a shoulder injury, and a woman had sustained undisclosed minor injuries. The woman has been identified as Joshua's girlfriend, and was injured by Daniel when trying to break up the fight between the brothers, according to the Sheriff's Office. She was released after questioning, while Joshua was taken to St. Thomas More Hospital for treatment of his injury before being booked in the Fremont County Detention Center on charges of second-degree murder. He's being held on a $30,000 bond.

The Sheriff's Office says alcohol was involved in the shooting. The investigation is ongoing.

Howard is located in western Fremont County, southeast of Salida.
