Fort Carson Battalion Leaders Suspended, Under Investigation

A commander and command sergeant major at Fort Carson have been suspended while under investigation.

Fort Carson officials confirmed the suspensions in a statement Friday:

The 1st Battalion, 25th Aviation Regiment commander and command sergeant major have been suspended due to an ongoing investigation. An investigating officer has been appointed to review the health of the command climate within 1-25 Attack Reconnaissance Battalion.

The battalion website identifies the commander as Lt. Col. Tammy Baugh and the command sergeant major as Command Sgt. Maj. Derrick Merriweather. According to their bios on the website, Baugh was commissioned in 1996, and has served two tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan; Merriweather has been in the Army for almost 27 years and has served in both Korea and Germany. Both have received the Bronze Star and the Meritorious Service Medal.

Fort Carson will not comment on why they are being investigated.
