A former high school volleyball coach is facing charges after he was allegedly caught touching himself in his car at Fort Carson while looking at the pornography.
We first broke this story today in an 11 Call for Action investigation.
A further Army investigation revealed Francis Hector Calar also allegedly had child pornography. Calar is now facing federal charges of child pornography
Calar is reportedly a civilian contractor at Fort Carson.
A spokesperson with District 3 confirms that Calar was a volleyball coach at Mesa Ridge High School. He resigned in 2013, reportedly so he could pursue "club volleyball interests." The district confirmed they have been notified of the investigation into Calar.
According to an affidavit, at 10:30 a.m. on March 10, military police were called to investigate a suspicious vehicle parked near a building on Barkeley Street on Fort Carson.
Investigators say Calar was in the driver's seat, touching himself while looking at a pornographic image of a little girl about 8 or 10 years old.
According to the affidavit, Calar told the officer, "Yes, I know you seen what I was doing and what I was looking at."
It goes on to say Calar told police he currently coaches young girls in volleyball and young boys in baseball. He also reportedly said he has taught Sunday School for kids at his church in the past.
We talked to Gardenia Falealili, a mom of one of Calar’s former volleyball players. She told us Calar coached her daughter at Big House Sports in Colorado Springs three years ago when she was just 13 years old.
“That was just a shock for me, I didn't know what was going on," Falealili said.
The papers also state Calar reportedly had an external hard drive hidden in his car with downloaded pictures of child porn.
"You don't know people, so I never had that kind of feeling, got that kind of feeling from him," Falealili said.
She said Calar wanted her daughter to play for his club team this year, but they decided to go with a different team.
"It's kind of sad to hear that something like that happening, sad for his family and his wife and kids," Falealili said.
Investigators say Calar told them he parked in the same lot at Fort Carson often and during his breaks he would search for child porn. He told investigators his sexual interest in children is only a "fantasy" and that he would never touch a child inappropriately.
Investigators told us they're asking the judge to hold him without bond because he's "a danger to the community."
We'll continue to closely follow this case and bring you any updated information as it becomes available.
