A flaming bottle didn't quite make it through the window of a vacant home as the suspect intended, Pueblo police say, falling instead onto the porch and scorching the siding.
The incident was reported on the 1900 block of Carteret, near Northern and Lake, just before 1 a.m. Tuesday. Officers were called to the house on reports of a structure fire, but instead of flames, responding officers saw something glowing on the porch. Upon closer look, officers realized a glass bottle with rag stuffed in it was on fire.
The Pueblo Fire Department was called to extinguish the bottle fire.
A witness told police she heard glass breaking, then looked out her window and saw a man leaving the area. He was described as 5-foot-9 and 190 pounds, wearing a black leather jacket and black pants. It was too dark for the witness to make any other details out.
Officers say there is strong evidence indicating someone tried to throw the flaming bottle through the window, but missed. The house has reportedly been vacant for three years.
Hannah Pullara lives nearby and saw the fire fighters in the morning. "It was a vacant house so I don't think it was malicious or intent to harm anybody, but who knows", said Pullara.
