Flags statewide will be flying at half-staff Monday in honor of a fallen corrections officer.
Friends and family will be gathering at 10 a.m. to remember Mary Ricard, who was killed last week during an assault involving an inmate. The assault broke out in the kitchen at the Arkansas Valley Correctional Facility in Ordway, and Ricard was stabbed in the neck.
The suspected inmate, convicted sex offender Miguel Alonso Contreras-Perez, was transferred to a maximum-security prison while authorities investigated the incident. He was reportedly working in the kitchen at the time of the assault.
Ricard's memorial service will be held at Crowley County High School on 630 Main St. in Ordway. Governor Hickenlooper plans to attend.
