Flags at Half-Staff in Honor of Fallen Soldier

Flags across the state are flying at half-staff today in honor of a fallen soldier from Colorado Springs.

Army Spc. Rob L. Nichols was killed in action while serving in Afghanistan July 23, 2013.

A public funeral is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at Holy Apostles Catholic Church, 4925 N. Carefree Circle in Colorado Springs. A reception will follow at The American Legion, Centennial Post 209, 3613 Jeannine Drive in Colorado Springs.

Nichols graduated from Sand Creek High School in Colorado Springs in 2007 and later attended Wyoming Technical Institute in Laramie, Wyo. He was a member of The American Legion, Centennial Post 209, in Colorado Springs.

Nichols was assigned to B Company, 3rd Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga. He received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart, both awarded posthumously.

A private interment will be Monday, Aug. 5.

Nichols is survived by his mother and stepfather, Donna and Bob Ribisi of Colorado Springs; his father, Bruce Nichols of the Denver area; and a brother, Chad Ribisi of Colorado Springs.
