Wednesday will offer more cloud cover and cooler temperatures. By later Wednesday afternoon, rain showers will develop across the Pikes Peak Region and slowly drift southward. Those rain showers will change to snow at higher elevations, and accumulations will be likely. At lower elevations, snow accumulation does not appear to be a big deal. Firefighters responded to a grass fire near the Flea Market near Platte and Powers in Colorado Springs Saturday afternoon.
It burned four acres.
Springs Fire says multiple units responded.
The area is near the La Cresta Mobile Home Park on Wooten and Pikes Peak. The fire department says no buildings were damaged and no one was hurt.
The fire was first reported at 3:16 p.m. and was contained around 4:00 p.m. Crews continued to put out hot spots and the fire was officially declared under control at 5:42 p.m.
Chief Meteorologist Brian Bledsoe says winds were gusting up to 30 miles an hour during the fire.
The fire department says that because of the wind and dry conditions, the fire quickly spread from a debris pile through the grass. The debris pile was reportedly in the middle of a large field.
Crews say they're not sure how the fire started, but are investigating to find out.
