On a day where many relaxed with their families, others worked through the holiday to keep the community safe.
11 News stopped by Colorado Springs Fire Station 17, and found that though the firefighters were still on duty for Thanksgiving, they still found a way to make some special memories.
Firefighters took turns cooking lots of food for the holiday lunch, even deep frying their own turkey.
"It's almost like we have two different families," Eric Ruettinger explained to 11 News. "We've got obviously our families at home and then we've also got our fire family here at the station...we have everybody over, we kinda bring those two together."
The firefighters were also feeling the love from the community. They say all throughout the day, people were stopping by to drop off food and pies for them to enjoy.
