Firefighters Rescue Several Residents After Fire Starts In Apartment

Several people were rescued from their homes early Thursday morning after a fire broke out at an apartment complex near The Citadel Mall.

More than two dozen firefighters raced to the Santa Fe Apartments around 3 a.m. after receiving the call, making it to the scene in just four minutes. When firefighters got there, several people were trapped in their units, so crews helped get them out. There were no serious injuries to anyone living at the complex, and just two minor injuries reported. One cat was reported deceased.

Firefighters were able to knock down the fire within 12 minutes of arrival, and keep it contained to one lower-level unit. There was enough damage to the unit that three residents will have to be displaced. The Red Cross says it is assisting those victims.

The Santa Fe Apartments are located on Delaware Drive, near Academy and Galley in east Colorado Springs.
