A fire on the south end of Pueblo sent a plume of thick black smoke into the air Tuesday afternoon.
The Pueblo Fire Department told KKTV 11 News a box car was on fire at the Evraz Steel plant. The plant confirmed their fire department was responding.
Later, a firefighter told our crew at the scene that the fire was at the Progress Rail yard where crews melt down old rail cars so they can be recycled. Evraz explained that they lease the property to a third party.
Witnesses started reporting the fire and sending pictures and video of the smoke to the newsroom around 3:30 p.m. Around 4:40 p.m. Evraz said the fire was contained and under control.
There is no word on what caused the fire.
