JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. The mayor of Kansas City says search crews have found a body in the rubble of a Kansas City restaurant destroyed by an explosion.
Mayor Sly James did not say whether the person was a man or a woman.
Authorities have been looking for a woman who worked at JJ's restaurant and was reported missing after the Tuesday evening blast. They previously said she was the only person still unaccounted for following the explosion and fire.
But James said Wednesday morning at a news conference that authorities can't be sure that every person who may have been at the restaurant has been accounted for.
He says 15 people were injured in the blast and fire. Six are still hospitalized, and nine have been released.
Authorities also are still trying to determine the full cause of the blast. Schulte says they do know there was a gas leak followed by an explosion. At this point, he says authorities believe it may have stemmed from an accident involving a utility contractor.
Earlier police spokeswoman Rhonda Flores said it appeared that a car crashed into a gas main near JJ's just after 6 p.m.
People have been cleared from the area around the restaurant.
