Firefighters say thanks to a quick-acting resident, a small fire at a Springs apartment complex was put out before it caused substantial damage.

The fire was first reported around 7 a.m. It was in the hallway on the lowest level of the Cedar Creek Apartments on 1070 S. Chelton. That's near the intersection with Fountain.

The resident put the small spot fire out with a fire extinguisher. It was out before firefighters arrived.

The fire is now under investigation.
