Fire Along I-25 Contained

Crews have contained a small fire burning off of I-25 near Larkspur.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office says the fire burned about a quarter acre on the east side of Monkey Face Mountain. It's contained, but crews will remain on scene for several hours to mop up and monitor the area.

The fire was reported by a driver. Smoke could be seen from I-25 near mile marker 172. The Sheriff's Office says the fire was located close to a fire station.

Crews from Castle Rock Fire, Douglas County Fire and Larkspur Fire Departments responded.

A lightning strike started the fire.
