A fatal house explosion in suburban Denver may have been intentional.
The explosion, which ripped apart a Thornton home and sent debris flying within a two square block radius, seemed to happen out of nowhere in the middle of the afternoon on June 19. But Wednesday, the Thornton police chief said that the home's gas line had been intentionally tampered with prior to the blast. Chief Randy Nelson said during a community meeting that a flexible gas line was intentionally removed and a pair of pliers was found near the furnace.
Previously, authorities had been looking into whether natural gas or drug production caused the blast.
The explosion killed 59-year-old Gary Lee Pine. A Thornton city spokesperson said two people who lived in the home were at work when the explosion happened.
The explosion remains under investigation.
