One woman is dead and two other people were hospitalized after an SUV went off the road and hit a tree head-on.

It happened in Pueblo at about 3:40 p.m. Friday at Dittmer Park near the corner of Goodnight Avenue and Cleveland Street. That's near Pueblo Community College.

Police tell us the SUV was going west on Cleveland when the driver failed to make a turn onto Goodnight. The SUV went across the oncoming lane and off the road, where it hit a tree.

Police said 20-year-old Jacqueline Solano, who was in the front passenger seat, was ejected throughout the front windshield and landed on the hood. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Nineteen-year-old Christy Arellano was in the back seat and was taken to the hospital with critical injuries.

Police say the 20-year-old driver, Gabriel Archuleta, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Police say alcohol and speed are factors in the collision. Their initial investigation indicates that none of the SUV's occupants were wearing seat belts. Police say the investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
