Two fast food restaurants and a grocery store were burglarized Wednesday--and investigators think they're all connected.
According to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office, a Wendy's, Sonic and Safeway were all hit in the early morning hours Wednesday. Authorities responded to an alarm at the Sonic on 7610 Midnight Road just before 3:30 a.m. and saw that the front window had been smashed. Once inside, deputies discovered a safe has been taken.
While canvassing the area, deputies saw a smashed window at a Wendy's drive-thru a quarter-mile away on McLaughlin Road. Authorities don't believe anything was taken.
Later, the sheriff's office obtained surveillance footage from a Safeway store in Falcon, which showed a man trying to break into a shopette next to the store's gas pumps. It's not believed he got in.
Based on the footage, the suspect is described as being 5-foot-8 and 180 pounds, wearing a dark-colored jacket with light-colored sleeves. The truck is described as a Ford with an extended cab. Surveillance images show a tool bed in the back of the truck.
Evidence at the scene has led investigators to believe the same suspect or suspects committed each of the crimes.
If you have any information on these crimes, you are asked to call the El Paso County Sheriff's Office at 390-5555.
