A Colorado Springs father is in disbelief after his pregnant daughter was shot and killed.
The woman's husband is accused of pulling the trigger.
Mark Hebert tells 11 News he is still in shock that his daughter, 32-year-old Lakeisha Jones, is gone.
"I couldn't wrap my mind around it because of her high spirit. How could anybody take my baby away," said Hebert.
Lakeisha was shot Monday morning at her apartment complex near Highway 115 and Lake. She was rushed to the hospital, but later died. Doctors were able to deliver her baby. The little girl remains in critical condition.
"She was always happy, she loved to laugh at just about anything. She was a wonderful mother," said Hebert.
Her estranged husband, Andre Jones, is now behind bars and charged with her murder. He appeared before a judge on Tuesday to hear the charges against him.
He is being held in jail without bond.
Court papers obtained by 11 News show the couple was going through a divorce. Lakeisha was reportedly 30 weeks pregnant with her co-worker's baby.
According to court papers, Andre Jones allegedly threatened to kill his wife, the unborn baby, and the co-worker when he found out the child wasn't his.
11 News has learned the couple has three children together. They were not at home at the time of the shooting.
As for Hebert, he tells 11 News his focus is helping his grandchildren cope with the tragic loss of their mom.
"We have to be strong for the kids. It hurt bad, but the kids need us now more than ever," said Hebert.
The family says they are in the process of setting up a memorial fund at a local bank for Lakeisha Jones.
11 News has learned there is a fund set up for the baby girl to cover the costs of her medical care. It is at Ent Federal Credit Union. Donations can be made for Jayla.
