A boy has been charged with arson after setting his home on fire Sunday night with his family inside.

Crews found several people trapped inside as the smoke and flames rapidly spread after the fire ignited in the boy's bedroom. Fire investigators say the boy was playing with matches inside the bedroom when the fire started.

Firefighters were able to get the family out safely. One woman required hospitalization for smoke inhalation.

The fire caused significant smoke and fire damage to the bedroom where the fire started. The family was displaced overnight.

The boy was charged with fourth-degree arson and released to his mother.

The home is located on Delaware Drive, near the Citadel Mall.
