Friday, March 21 will be "Single Parents Day" in El Paso County.
The county sets aside a different day each year to recognize single parents.
Twenty-seven percent of children in El Paso County come from single parent homes, according to Commissioner Chair Dennis Hisey.
The Board of El Paso County Commissioners said they want to recognize the challenges single parents face and their dedication.
Commissioner Sallie Clark said the day is also meant to recognize military families who are "temporary single parents" when a spouse is deployed.
March 21 is also National Single Parents Day. President Ronald Reagan instituted that in 1984.
