Drop In Gas Prices Expected To Continue Through Thanksgiving

It's not your imagination--gas prices really are beginning to fall in Colorado.

In Colorado Springs, gas prices have seen a steady drop in the last month, going from a city average of $3.31 a month ago to $3.15 two weeks ago to $3.09 last week, according to gasbuddy.com. The average price per gallon is currently $3.06.

At this time last year, the average price per gallon was $3.38 in Colorado Springs.

The state average is currently $3.10, down from $3.39 a month ago.

A number of gas stations in Colorado Springs and the Denver metro area are beginning to boast prices under $3 for the first time in months.

According to CBS Moneywatch, the downward trend is expected to continue. Experts say prices are dropping due to a combination of lower crude oil prices, a quiet hurricane season--allowing refineries to operate uninterrupted, and people purchasing more cars with higher gas mileage lowering demand.

That's good news for drivers as we head into the busiest driving week of the year: Thanksgiving week.
