Get ready for some changes on the drive through Ute Pass on Highway 24 west of Manitou Springs.

CDOT crews are shifting their roadwork to the other side of Highway 24. They have been working for the last couple of months to install an extra large concrete box culvert, which is designed to carry large amounts of water during heavy rains. Crews have completed the culvert installation on one side of the highway, but now have to build the other half of the culvert.

Starting Saturday evening at 7, traffic will switch from the westbound lanes to the eastbound lanes. Drivers should expect some delays while the change is made.

The project should be finished and all four lanes back open by May 22.

View Chief Meteorologist Brian Bledsoe's explanation on why this new culvert is needed, and how it will work.
