Driver runs red light, smashes into police cruiser

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) No serious injuries were reported after a car ran a red light in northeast Colorado Springs and rammed into a police car Friday afternoon, police said.

The lone officer and two people in the Toyota coupe were taken to a hospital after the crash at Barnes Road and Tutt Boulevard just after 4:30 p.m.

Witnesses told police "the light for traffic on Barnes Road turned red as the officer began to complete the turn, and a Toyota car traveling east on Barnes at a high rate of speed ran the red light and struck the police car," the report said.

Police are investigating the crash.
