Three people were taken to the hospital after police say a Chevy Impala crashed into a van stopped at a red light.
The crash happened late Friday night at the intersection of Academy and Bijou in Colorado Springs. Police say the driver of the Impala did not slow down for the red light, and was going full speed when she rear-ended the van.
Our crew at the scene said the Impala had significant damage to its front following the crash. The passenger inside suffered serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. Both drivers were also taken to the hospital, but the extent of their injuries is unknown.
The driver of the Impala, 34-year-old Rebekah Ortiz, is now being investigated for driving under the influence, careless driving and vehicular assault.
The crash shut down the intersection for five hours. It was reopened at 4:50 a.m.
