A driver was killed in a fiery crash near Fort Carson early Sunday morning.
The accident happened at approximately 3 a.m. on S. Academy Blvd. near the B Street overpass.
State Patrol says the driver was traveling east on S. Academy when the person went into the median and then crashed into the guardrail on the westbound side of the road. The Jeep Grand Cherokee flipped and landed on top of the guardrail where it burst into flames.
The vehicle was engulfed in flames by the time firefighters arrived. The driver was unable to get out. A dog that was inside the vehicle also died.
Our crew at the scene said the engine of the Jeep dislodged from the vehicle and ended up on the train tracks below the overpass.
