Police have identified a man who was shot by a Fremont County deputy near Florence, and the deputy that reportedly pulled the trigger.
The shooting happened at Pathfinder Regional Park just outside of Florence, southeast of Cañon City.
The sheriff's office tells us Sheriff’s Detective Michael Miller was trying to make contact with 23-year-old Michael Alan Stringer a little before 6 Tuesday evening. Stringer may have been involved in a crime earlier the same day in Florence.
The deputy fired his gun at the man during some type of fight.
The Stringer, who is from Cañon City, was flown to a local hospital. He's expected to survive. He remains in the hospital in stable condition, according to the Sheriff's Office. The deputy was not hurt during the fight.
Right now the Colorado Bureau of Investigation is leading the investigation. The deputy will be on administrative leave while CBI looks into the shooting.
We asked the sheriff's office what the suspect may have been involved in earlier Tuesday, but they would not release that information.
Detective Miller has been with the Sheriff’s Office since 2001.
