A man shot his partner before shooting himself, while three children were inside the home, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office said Friday.
The couple was found shot to death inside a home on the 9100 block of Chieftan Drive Tuesday night. That's near the intersection of Bradley Road and South Marksheffel Boulevard, southeast of the Colorado Springs Airport.
The female victim has been identified as 27-year-old Tara Buckler. The county corner ruled her death a homicide, caused by a single gunshot to the head. Though still investigating the incident, the Sheriff's Office now believes Jeffrey Lawrence, 29, shot Buckler before shooting himself in the head.
The children, all under the age of 10, are currently living with a local relative.
Neighbors tell 11 News this was a tragic and surprising situation. Everyone we talked to said it's an extremely quiet neighborhood, and nothing like this has ever happened before.
