Deputies say a convicted sex offender was outside an elementary school in Florence driving slowly and watching kids who were walking home from school.
A former Fremont County sheriff's deputy recognized the sex offender, Barry Eugene Burous, 38, when he saw him outside of McKinley Elementary School in Cañon City on Feb. 7.
The deputy notified the sheriff's office, who called Burrous' probation officer. The probation officer and deputies arrested Burrous at his home.
In a news release, the Fremont County Sheriff's Office spokesman says "Burrous was specifically watching young girls at the school and 'waiting for the right one.'" His bond was set at $50,000. He is being held in the Fremont County Jail.
