Deer Cause In Fatal Motorcycle Crash

An errant deer leaped into the path of an oncoming motorcycle, causing a fatal crash.

The accident happened Saturday on Highway 9, 10 miles north of the Royal Gorge.

According to State Patrol, the motorcycle and deer collided, causing the motorcycle to veer out of control. As the motorcycle tumbled down the highway, the driver was ejected.

The driver, identified as 65-year-old Robert Larson of Florence, was air lifted to Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs, where he died on arrival.

State Patrol says no other contributing factors to the crash have been found.
