A motorcycle rider is dead after crashing into a dump truck. It was the second fatal accident involving a motorcycle in Colorado Springs Friday.
State Patrol says the rider of a 1983 Honda Goldwing motorcycle was traveling north on Powers Blvd near Cresterra Pkwy. on the far southeast side of Colorado Springs. A dump truck reportedly stopped at a stop sign at the intersection before attempting to turn left onto Powers.
The motorcycle collided with the left side of the dump truck.
The rider, 29-year-old Spencer Shipley of Colorado Springs was pronounced dead at the scene. State Patrol says he was wearing a helmet and eye protection at the time of the accident.
The driver of the dump truck, identified as Daniel Alfieri, 53, was wearing his seat belt and was not hurt.
The accident happened at 9:45 p.m. July 26.
State Patrol says the cause of the crash is still under investigation, but at the time of the writing of this article, they say alcohol, drugs and speed are not considered to be contributing factors in the crash.
