Kidnapping Suspect Arrest Causes School Lockdowns

11 News now knows why two schools were put on lockdown Friday afternoon. Colorado Springs police say they arrested a kidnapping suspect.

While police searched for him Doherty High School and Carver Elementary were put on lockdown Friday afternoon.

Police say at 1:53 Friday morning they went to the 2300 block of San Marcos on a report of a kidnapping. A woman told police that a girl had crawled into her backyard and said she'd been attacked. The girl was naked and bleeding.

Police say Michael Rivera had taken the victim at gunpoint from a parking lot at the Clarion Motel on West Bijou St. They say he took her to a home on Sonoma Dr. where he hit her in the head several times with his fist and a gun.

Police say the suspect forced the girl to undress and get in the shower. When the suspect left the bathroom, the victim climbed out the bathroom window and ran to a nearby house.

The victim says this is the second time this happened to her. The first time was in October 2012. The victim had reported the crime the first time and police have been looking for the suspect.

Friday police found the suspect and took him into custody. That's when Doherty High School and Carver Elementary were put on lockdown.
