LATEST Evacuations: Most COS Evacuees Allowed To Return

More residents are being allowed to return home Monday afternoon as evacuations continue to be lifted.

Residents of all homes on Eileen Court, Centauri Road, Boardwalk Drive and Corporate Plaza Drive have been reduced to pre-evacuation status and can return home. Residents of addresses 4510 through 4795 can also return home.

All of Teller County has also been removed from pre-evacuation status as of Monday afternoon.

A large number of residents were allowed to return home Sunday in Colorado Springs and greater El Paso County.

Sunday morning, residents of Chipita Park, Green Mountain Falls, Crystola and Cascade were allowed to return. Highway 24 was reopened from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. for these residents, then at 1 p.m. will reopen for everyone, much to the relief of citizens in Teller County, who have been isolated during the fire after their primary access to the Front Range was cut off.

Sunday night at 8, residents of Oak Valley Ranch, Pinon Valley, Peregrine, Grand Centennial Apartments, and all businesses along Centennial and 30th will be allowed to return.

Saturday, Teller County decided that the mandatory evacuation of the city of Woodland Park can be lifted.

Additionally, pre-evacuation notices were lifted for Monument, Palmer Lake and unincorporated parts of El Paso County north of the Air Force Academy.

Additionally, all evacuations of the Pine Valley and Douglas Valley housing areas on the Air Force Academy ended at 5 a.m. on Friday. Academy officials recommend using both the North and South gates to minimize traffic.

Thunderbird and Pinecreek Estates are also off an evacuation order.

Pre-evacuation notices:

-Douglas County, from South County Line to the south to Noe Road on the north, Spruce Mountain on the east, and Rampart Range Road on the west.

-Everyone previously on mandatory in El Paso and Teller County this past week is now on pre-evacuation.

Pet Evacuations


Rocky Mountain Health Care Services is offering a shelter option and can take small pets with evacuees. They are located on 310 S. 14th St. Call 719-641-2747.

Large animals can be taken to the Norris Penrose Equestrian Center, located at 1045 W. Rio Grande St. The Humane Society is currently at capacity and is setting up a second location, which will be announced sometime Monday. The following places may accept evacuated animals:

People staying at the Cheyenne Mountain shelter can bring small animals with them, but no pets can be dropped off without an owner.

The city of Colorado Springs tells evacuees to not turn off your gas. Springs Utilities will do mass shutoffs if necessary.
