The fire that destroyed a vacant home in Fountain Wednesday morning was intentionally set, according to the fire department.
Crews responded to the 10000 block of Jimmy Camp Road between High Gate Drive and Pullara Drive Wednesday morning. Flames were coming out the back of the home when crews arrived, and soon spread to the roof, according to Fire Chief Darrin Anstine.
The fire department is asking anyone who saw anything in the area between 7:00 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. Wednesday to call the fire department at 382-7800.
Heavy smoke could be seen from I-25 as crews battled the fire, which took several hours to put out.
The fire chief says the home has been vacant for a long time and was scheduled to be torn down within the next couple of weeks. No utilities were running to the home.
Because of the poor condition of the house, firefighters did not go inside, opting instead to fight the flames from above with ladder trucks and from the sides.
Jimmy Camp Road was closed in both directions.
No injuries were reported.
