Despite strong winds, crews were able to wrangle an 800 acre fire under control in a matter of hours.
According to the Kiowa County Sheriff's Office, the fire started in a field around 1 p.m., got into a canal, and spread to the Upper and Lower Queens reservoirs. Firefighters were able to contain the flames in one of the reservoirs within an hour.
The entire fire was contained by 10 p.m. Saturday. Six agencies responded to the fire.
