A teenage driver was allegedly speeding when he passed an officer on South Union Boulevard in Colorado Springs just after midnight. Police say he refused to stop and the gave chase until a serious crash on the exit ramp from I-25 to South Nevada.
The officer chased 18-year-old Anthony Medina's car from Union onto the the westbound lanes of the Martin Luther King Bypass, northbound on I-25 and eventual the exit to S. Nevada Avenue. As the vehicle neared the end of the ramp, the driver struck a curb while trying to turn southbound.
The car went airborne before coming to rest in a creek.
Police say Medina ran from the crash, leaving his three passengers behind. Officers later caught him hiding under a nearby bridge. He is charged with vehicular assault, DUI and felony eluding.
The three passengers were all taken to the hospital. Two were treated for serious injuries, and one was treated for minor injuries. None of the injuries are life threatening.
