COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - Court records are shedding more light on what might have led to the shooting death of a man whose body was found in a Pueblo creek last month.
Nineteen-year-old Jessy Jo Barnes is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 20-year-old Daniel Cressey. Meanwhile, 48-year-old Howard Box, who's suspected of helping her dump the body, faces a charge of being an accessory to the crime.
Court documents obtained by The Gazette say Barnes told detectives that on the night of the shooting Cressey became afraid and upset because of an earlier fight he had been in with Box involving a stolen ring, a bag of drugs and $10. Barnes told investigators Cressey's behavior prompted her to grab a handgun and shoot him twice in the chest, according to the records.
