A jury has convicted a former Steamboat Springs-area teacher accused of sexually molesting a 12-year-old boy.
The Steamboat Springs Pilot & Today reports John Brothers Jr. was found guilty Friday of eight felony counts of sex assault on a child, in addition to eight sex assault counts by a person in a position of trust. He is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 19.
Brothers worked at Heritage Christian School west of Steamboat Springs between 2006 and 2008, where he taught junior high and high school science, high school math and Bible class.
The boy, who said Brothers molested him in 2007, reported the abuse to the Routt County Sheriff's Office in 2012.
The District Attorney's Office says Brothers faces between 10 years and life in prison.
