Colo retailer won't sell guns with large magazines

Colorado outdoor retailer Jax Mercantile says it has stopped selling rifles and handguns with high-capacity magazines at its six stores in Colorado and Iowa because of the mass shootings of schoolchildren in Connecticut.

Jax President Jim Quinlan said Friday the ban applies to weapons that come with magazines holding more than 10 rounds.

He says his company sold out of that type of weapon after the Connecticut shootings and won't order more.

The ban also applies to separate magazines that hold more than 10 rounds.

Quinlan calls it a "moral and personal decision." It was first reported by the Boulder Daily Camera.

Jax is based in Fort Collins and has stores there and in Lafayette and Loveland, Colo., and one in Ames, Iowa. Jax will continue selling conventional hunting rifles.
