A car crashed into a tree early Saturday morning, but when officers arrived on scene, there was no trace of anyone inside.
Not long before the crash, the vehicle had been at the center of a short police chase. Police were called to the area of Airport and Chelton on a shots fired call; while on scene, more shots were heard and then a Chevy Blazer was seen speeding off from the area.
Police attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver kept accelerating more and more, finally reaching too high of a speed for officers to continue.
A short time later, police were notified of an accident on Airport and Printers Parkway. Officer rushed to the scene and discovered the Blazer, smashed into a tree. Though the vehicle incurred a great deal of damage, its occupants were able to get out and flee the scene. A handgun was found inside the car.
No information about suspects is available at this time.
