Police are searching for a woman they say left the scene of a serious accident involving a bicyclist.

Michael Patterson, a 21-year-old Colorado State student from Colorado Springs, is in critical condition at a Loveland hospital. Police say he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The crash happened Wednesday evening near the intersection of Laurel and Shields Street in Fort Collins. Based on both witness accounts and the police investigation, officers believe Patterson was hit by the left front corner of the vehicle after he turned in front of it.

Police say the driver stopped briefly after the crash, but left the scene before officers got there. She did reportedly get out of her vehicle while she was stopped, and left after other people came over to help.

The driver is described as a white female between 25 and 30 years old. She is believed to be about 5-foot-6 or 5-foot-7 and 175-200 pounds. She has long, straight dark hair, and was last seen wearing jeans and a pink and orange shirt with a white cardigan.

The vehicle is described as a white sedan with black door handles, Police say it may have minor damage to the left front corner of the vehicle.

Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to call the Fort Collins Police Department.
