Clerk Seriously Injured During Convenience Store Robbery

A convenience store clerk was seriously injured during a robbery just after midnight Friday.

Police say the clerk was assaulted after he followed the two robbery suspects out of the store to get a license plate number on their vehicle.

The incident happened around 12:13 a.m. at the 7-Eleven/Conoco on 330 S. Academy in Colorado Springs.

Two men allegedly came into the gas station and started stuffing merchandise under their clothing. When one of the clerks tried to stop them, police say the suspects shoved her out of the way and ran out of the store. She was not injured.

When a second clerk ran out after them to see if they were leaving in a vehicle, police say he was attacked. Officers got to the scene during the assault, and arrested the suspect. The victim was transported to the hospital.

The second suspect got away, leaving several stolen items strewn outside the store. Police found him a short time later, several blocks away.

The suspects have been identified as 22-year-old Montinique Hill and 24-year-old Najee Jackson. Both were taken to the Criminal Justice Center.
