City Council Taking Steps Towards Stricter Fire Codes

In the wake of the Waldo Canyon Fire, city leaders are taking steps to prevent that type of devastation from ever happening again.

Colorado Springs City Council gave preliminary approval to fire code changes, requiring homes in the foothills to be more fire resistant.

The city fire marshal says if those codes had been stricter before the Waldo Canyon Fire, hundreds of homes might still be standing.

The new codes would make homes in the Mountain Shadows neighborhood more fire resistant when they are rebuilt.
