The woman killed in a deadly car crash Sunday afternoon has been identified.
Julia Herbst and her young son were fatally injured after police say a woman ran off the road and crashed into Herbst's vehicle. The child's name has not been released, but police say he is under 10 years old.
The other driver involved, identified Monday as 24-year-old Brandi Burks, has been cited with roadways laned for tor traffic and careless driving resulting in death.
The deadly crash happened just after 2 p.m. Sunday on Circle Drive and Server Drive. That's on the southeast side of Colorado Springs.
Police said Burks was going north on Circle Drive toward Fountain Boulevard when she ran off the right side of the road. Investigators said the woman continued to drive until she slammed into the side of Herbst's 2003 Toyota Corolla, killing the two passengers.
Those who live nearby say this has been a problem area in the past.
"It’s really unfortunate what happened, but I’m not at all surprised," neighbor Frank Zawada said.
Investigators said the Corolla was about to turn right from Server Drive and head northbound on Circle when the Mariner T-boned them.
The road was closed for nearly five hours while the CSPD Major Accident Unit was called out to investigate.
At this time, police don't believe drugs and alcohol are factors in this crash.
