A leopard will be released back into the wild after it wandered into a village, a situation that terrified both residents and the animal.

It happened in the town of Ballarpur in central India.

The incident was captured on video, with the big cat climbing through a hole in a roof as residents ran to get out of the way.

The cat eventually hid in a home, where the Forest Department captured it. It will reportedly be released back into the wild.

Authorities say human-animal conflict is a problem in many parts of India as settlements expand into wilderness areas.

Authorities also say that animals are being forced to wander farther in search of food because of things like illegal deforestation, logging and extension of crop lands into forest reserves.
