Car Companies Create, Retain Jobs With New Cars

Both GM and Chrysler are getting ready to make a couple of smaller cars.

CBS News reported that GM will spend $190 million to build a new smaller cadillac, while Chrysler is investing $600 million at its Belvidere, Ill. plant to build new cars beginning in 2012. GM's plan for a new car will bring 600 new jobs to its Lansing Grand River plant--a reversal on the trend among Michigan's struggling motor companies.

Chrysler's investment won't create new jobs, but it will allow the company to retain the 2,300 jobs currently at that assembly plant.
