Colorado State University has drafted a budget that would raise undergraduate tuition by 9 percent for in-state students and 3 percent for out-of-state students next fall, if approved by its board of governors.

The Coloradoan reports the hike would mean resident students would pay $620 more a year, or about $7,495, while nonresident students would pay more than $23,000 annually.

CSU President Tony Frank says the university is investing more in financial aid, looking to fund a 3 percent salary increase, and figuring out where to allocate state funds. Gov. John Hickenlooper in November announced the state budget for 2013-14, which proposed $30 million more in state funding for Colorado's colleges and universities. CSU's share is about $6 million.
