CSPD: Short Police Chase, Shots Fired Call May Be Related

Springs police are searching for a vehicle that may have been involved in two separate incidents Friday and early Saturday morning.

The vehicle is described as an older-model white Dodge Durango. 11 News is still working to get the license plate confirmed.

Police believe the vehicle was involved in an attempted traffic stop and short police chase late Friday afternoon.

An officer reportedly tried to pull the driver over in the area of Bijou and Tejon around 5:45 p.m. after seeing him run a red light. When the officers started to approach the car, police say the suspect instead "aggressively" started reversing his vehicle, barely missing hitting the officers. The suspect rammed into the unmarked vehicle and sped off. Police chased after him briefly, but were unable to catch up to him. The vehicle was last seen driving through the Colorado College campus.

Just after midnight Saturday, police received a few calls about shots heard in the area of Atlantic Drive, near the Valley Hi Golf Course. Responding officers were unable to locate anything.

At first police did not think there was a connection, but an officer later found reason to link the two incidents.

Gabriel Martin was later arrested and charged with attempted murder and assault on an officer. He is set to appear in court Monday, May 13.
